Southampton has just earned the distinction of being New York State’s priciest summer destination. The cost of lodging pushes this Hamptons, Long Island hot spot into the number one position in a recent survey’s rankings.
NewYorkHotels.org conducted the survey, during which it put 20 popular destinations in the Empire State side by side. It then ranked all those destinations from most expensive to least expensive based on their cheapest available double room during the month of August 2018. The survey excluded hotels with a rating of less than 3 stars and those whose location was far from the beach or city center.
When the rankings were compiled, Southampton took the top spot at an average nightly rate of $334 for its least expensive room. Joining it in the Top 3 were two other Long Island locales, Greenport and Shelter Island. Average overnight price tags of $324 and $294, respectively, put them into the number two and three slots.
Saratoga Springs emerged as the fourth priciest destination and also the most expensive one outside of Long Island. Averaging $287 per night, this horse-racing mecca in the foothills of the Adirondack Region in Upstate New York fell just outside the podium. In a somewhat surprise twist, Manhattan proved itself rather affordable. Rooms there this summer can be found for less than $150.
